DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?
Placing a dental implant generally results in minimal post-op discomfort since there is no open wound that must heal like when a tooth is removed. We also offer different sedation options to help pass the time and make the appointment more pleasant.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST AND WILL MY INSURANCE COVER THIS PROCEDURE?
If dental implants are a covered benefit in your dental insurance then coverage would be available, and our office will submit and monitor your claim. We have multiple payments and financing options available such as interest-free financing up to 12 months.
WHERE IS THE PROCEDURE DONE? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
This is a minor procedure performed in our dental office, and it usually takes about an hour. We always schedule at least 1 ½ hours to allow time for you to get comfortable, to answer all of your questions, and to review post-operative care thoroughly.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Using a dental implant to replace a missing tooth leaves the adjacent teeth untouched. In comparison, placing a bridge requires the removal of a good tooth structure on the adjacent teeth to fit in the bridge.

HOW LONG DO DENTAL IMPLANTS LAST?
Dental implants can last a lifetime if they are properly managed. Proper management starts before the dental implant is placed. 45% of Americans have periodontitis, and this must first be treated before an implant is placed. Having active periodontitis can lead to peri-implantitis (gum disease around an implant).
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY DENTAL IMPLANTS?
To keep your implant healthy long-term, we recommend regular cleaning visits with your dentist and periodontist to monitor for peri-implantitis (gum disease around an implant). On a daily basis, we recommend interdental cleaning (floss, proxybrush) and brushing with a powered toothbrush.
DO I HAVE TO MISS WORK? HOW MUCH DOWNTIME SHOULD I EXPECT?
The vast majority of patients take the day off on the day of the procedure. Many of our patients decide to go back to work the day after, but some patients take the weekend to recover. This is a personal decision. There may be post-op swelling and discomfort that generally lasts a few days, but most can control this with Tylenol and Ibuprofen and continue with their normal daily routines.
WHAT IS THE FOLLOW-UP LIKE?
There is a 2-week post-op appointment to remove any remaining sutures, a 2-3 month appointment to confirm integration of the implant, and a final observation appointment once you receive your tooth from your general dentist. To keep your implant healthy long-term, we recommend cleaning visits to maintain the health of your implant. You can always call the office or the emergency number, at any point, to discuss any questions you may have during the post-op period.
WHAT CAN I EAT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
We ask that you have a softer diet. Avoid raw carrots, raw apples, and fried chicken. Instead, eat soft steamed vegetables and baked chicken. It is imperative that you do not chew on the dental implant during the healing period as it will cause implant failure. At the consultation appointment, we discuss post-op management and give a detailed list of the types of foods you can eat.
WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
A dental implant is a highly sophisticated screw that integrates into the bone in your mouth. A middle connector called an abutment is then screwed into the dental implant (screw). And then the tooth itself is connected to the abutment to restore your chewing function and esthetics. Your Periodontist/dental implant surgical specialist places the dental implant, and your general dentist places the abutment and tooth.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Some people would not be candidates for dental implants based on their health history. At the consultation appointment, your entire health history will be reviewed, and comprehensive oral evaluation will identify exactly what is needed to place an implant and restore your esthetics and function.
